THE MOSAIC CANARY Wout van Gils THE ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT: The mosaic canary was created by breeding the hooded siskin. As far as I have been able to learn, this origin dates from around 1942. Through a very strict selection on the female color characteristics of both the hooded siskin pupa and the canary pupa, the mosaic pattern was established step by step - one can clearly speak of sexual dimorphism here.
