It is often the case that frugality deceives all wisdom — and this also applies to our hobby. Only thoughtful and responsible thrift can be good for our birds; the rest only causes harm.
The idea that birds can survive on rationed food in winter is only partially correct. The food may look different than during breeding or moulting, but real rationing goes too far. Different in composition — yes; lower quality or smaller quantities — no.
