If a bird is sick, there may be various causes. A category that never actually needs to occur is the deficiency diseases. Strictly speaking, it is not a disease, but — as the word says — a defect. Once the cause has been resolved, the symptoms often disappear quickly and without lasting consequences.
Exception: if the defect occurs during the nesting phase or the growth of a young bird, irreversible abnormalities may occur — deformities of toes, legs or nails, blindness, or poor feather growth. These cannot be repaired afterwards.
